Those widths are BEFORE the external armrests are added. Most people's bodies are no wider than 25 or 27 inches without the arms. The armrests on this table add another 3 inches on each side. When the table is flattened (presumably for esthetic work on the back or massage) the table will be 25, 27, or 30 inches wide PLUS the extra 6 inches for the armrests, along the shoulder/arm area, which is where the extra width will be needed.
